Good Off Leash Area
Hiawatha ForestWe vacation in Holland every few years and have 3 German Shepherds so we’re always looking for places they can come too. It’s kind of a “hole in the wall” place, in my opinion, but that doesn’t make it a bad thing. The entrance to the forest area wasn’t very well marked so I did drive past it at first but no big deal. I’m not sure if there is more than one entrance but we entered off 168th Avenue. It’s basically a minimally traveled gravel road. We went on a weekday in mid-August and did not encounter anyone else in the hour that we were there. Our main reason for going was to find a body of water for the dogs to cool off and play in that didn’t have a ton of other people around and that didn’t cost to enter. This place was good for our specific needs. We walked a short two minutes before coming across the little retention pond/lake area. Our dogs loved playing in the area. It was kind of sandy/muddy along the pond’s edge but that didn’t bother us - and certainly not the dogs! It was relatively stagnant water. Overall, not a bad place to go for a quick walk with the dogs where they can be off leash.
